Our classroom time between seasons is winding down and ski trips are just around the corner. We have been busy doing a cross-curricular unit on Salmon in BC. This unit included a trip to the Fraser River for a lesson with Ernie Victor, Jade's dad, and an expert on salmon. Thank you Mr. Victor. Next Wednesday we will be visiting the Skowkale Fish Hatchery to harvest and fertilize eggs from three Coho Salmon, which we will be in charge of raising in the hatchery over the winter. We finished the classroom part of this unit with a student led seminar last week. Great job everyone.
We will be going to Whistler Blackcomb on December 12 and December 18 next month. The forms for this trip have already been sent home with students and it is also attached below. Most students have already returned this form but I need all forms in by Thursday to let Whistler know our ski rental details.
Our Purdy's fundraiser has been a going great. Just a reminder that the deadline to order chocolate is December 1. Chocolate pick up is December 10 between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. I have put the Purdy's account information at the end of this post. We will have on more fundraising in the next months.
Finally, the Chilliwack Centre of Excellence has been busy with a number of Pool Sessions. A few of our students and even some of us teachers have been out learning how to role our kayaks or just improving our skills. Please see the CCE sportical calendar by following this link:
The club also asked be to post the following information about a special lake paddle this Saturday.
The Chilliwack Centre of Excellence Paddling Club, along with Sports Day in Canada, would like to invite you, your Outdoor Ed students, and their paddling friends, to our Cultus Lake Poker Paddle on Sat November 30th, 1-3pm. Come celebrate the joy of year-round sport in Canada with a freezing paddle on our own local lake. There will be 5 paddling stops around Cultus. At each stop you will be handed a hot drink and a playing card. The best poker hand at the finish wins a prize!

Hi everyone. Now that we are done our kayaking unit we wanted to let you know about the kayak club opportunities our students have. Each student of the class has a membership with the Chilliwack Centre of Excellence Kayak Club until March. Throughout the winter the club does a number of drop in pool sessions, as well as youth focused pool sessions at the Cheam Leisure Centre. These sessions are for club members and only cost $10 to cover the pool rental. If your son or daughter loved kayaking and wants to get better in a warm water environment, this is a great opportunity. If they completely fall in love with the sport, they can sign up for a club membership in April and take part in a huge selection of club opportunities. It is a great sport to take up, given where we live. We want to thank Jon Allen and the club for all they have done for us this year. They are a great partner to have in our program.
I have attached a link to the Centre of Excellence events page as well as their main website. The first youth drop in pool time is November 3 so check out the events page below and sign up.
